Marvin Zonis, Professor Emeritus in the Chicago Booth School of Business, former director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES), and an expert in Middle East politics, passed away November 15, 2020. He was 84.

The following was excerpted from a memorial by CMES:

"Educated at Yale University, the Harvard Business School, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received a Ph.D. in political science, and the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, Zonis wrote extensively on Middle East politics, the oil industry, globalization, emerging markets, and U.S. foreign policy. He lived in Iran, hitchhiked through Afghanistan in the 1960s, studied Islam in Iraq beginning in 1964, and travelled throughout other parts of the region as well."
