    Marshall D. Sahlins, Charles F. Grey Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Department of Anthropology and an eminent cultural anthropologist of the Pacific known for sparking lively academic debates, passed away April 5, 2021. He was 90.

    Tetsuo Najita, the Robert S. Ingersoll Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in History, East Asian Languages and Civilizations and the College, and a “complex, brilliant” scholar of Japanese history, passed away January 11. He was 84.
