Victor Friedman, Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Department of Linguistics and the College, was awarded the activity grant for copy-editing service for the second edition of his book The Slavonic Languages.

Elliot Gershon, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Human Genetics, was awarded the activity grant to attend an academic conference on psychiatric genetics and pay for computational services and supplies related to the NIH “All of Us” health database research collaboration.

Stefano Guandalini, Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics, was awarded the activity grant for travel to 18th Congress “Il Bambino del Mediterraneo” (“The child of the Mediterranean Sea”) in Crotone, Italy to speak as the keynote lecturer.

Takeshi Oka, Robert A, Millikan Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and of Astronomy and Astrophysics, was awarded the activity grant for conference travel to the International Symposium in Molecular Spectroscopy in Urbana-Champaign, IL, and the International Astronomical Union in Traverse City, MI.

James Redfield, Edward Olson Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Classical Languages and Literatures, Social Thought, Committee on the Ancient Mediterranean World, and the College, was awarded the activity grant for editing services on a translation and commentary on Plato’s Seventh Letter.

Theodore Steck, Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics and Cell & Molecular Biology, was awarded the activity grant for publication fees related to publication of his article “Is reverse cholesterol transport regulated by active cholesterol?”

Elissa Weaver, Professor Emerita of Italian Literature in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, was awarded the activity grant for travel to Italy to collaborate with another scholar on a translation of Frescobaldi’s 1563 History of Italy (Istoria d’Italia).

Autumn 2022

Fred Donner, Peter B. Ritzma Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern History in the Oriental Institute and the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, was awarded the activity grant to attend and deliver the Presidential Address at the International Qur’anic Studies Association (IQSA) in Palermo.

Michael Fishbane, Nathan Cummings Distinguished Service Professor of Jewish Studies Emeritus in Divinity School, was awarded the activity grant to support research on a new book with the working title Poetics of Tradition. Jewish Liturgical Poetry.             

Victor Friedman, Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Humanities in the Department of Linguistics, was awarded the activity grant to support the final stages and manuscript preparation for The Balkan Languages (Cambridge University Press), co-authored with Brian D. Joseph (The Ohio State University).

Takeshi Oka, Robert A. Millikan Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Astronomy and Astrophysics and Chemistry, was awarded the activity grant for travel related to presentations at two international workshops: “Cosmic Rays: The Salt of the Star Formation Recipe” in Florence and “Galactic Center Workshop 2023” in Granada.

Marta Ptaszynska, Helen B. and Frank L. Sulzberger Professor Emeritus of Composition in the Department of Music was awareded the activity grant related to work on two pieces: Imaginary Landscapes and Double Concerto for Saxophones, Piano, and large Symphonic Orchestra. Both premier Spring 2023 in Poland.

Jerrold Sadock, Glen A. Lloyd Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Department of Linguistics, was awarded the activity grant to carry out field work in Greenland on Inuit and Yupik languages.

Josef Stern, William H. Colvin Professor of Philosophy Emeritus in the Department of Philosophy, was awarded the activity grant to assist with his current book project on Maimonides.

Richard Strier, Frank L. Sulzberger Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Department of English, was awarded the activity grant to participate in panels and roundtables at two conferences: The Sixteenth-Century Society Conference and the Shakespeare Association of America Conference.

William Veeder, Professor Emeritus of English and American Literature in the Department of English, was awarded the activity grant to support research and work on his historical novel project titled Pierce.
